Squatex and CTI at SIM Senegal 2025 : A Remarkable First Presence Under the Banner of Innovation and Sustainability
From November 4 to 6, 2025, Ressources & Énergie Squatex Inc. and Caron Technologies International (CTI) took part in the 8th Senegal International Mining Conference and Exhibition (SIM 2025), held in Dakar under the theme “Mineral Resources, a Lever for Economic Sovereignty.”
This major event in the African mining and energy sector brought together government representatives, companies, researchers, and investors to discuss the future of sustainable natural resource development.
A Remarkable First Presence in Senegal
This participation marked the first official presence of Squatex and CTI in Senegal, just a few weeks after the signing of a three-year renewable framework partnership agreement with the National Geological Survey of Senegal (SGNS).
The agreement aims to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation between Quebec and Senegal in geological mapping, energy exploration, and sustainable technology development.
On site, Mr. Stephan Séjourné, geologist and technical advisor at Squatex, gave several interviews to the media, including Senegal News, to present the company’s vision and objectives in Senegal. Alongside him, Mr. Mbaye Ndiaye, Director of Development and Research at CTI, showcased his company’s low-carbon technological solutions, including carbon-neutral drilling rigs and intelligent geological mapping systems designed to optimize responsible resource exploration and development.
Innovating for Sustainable Exploration
Historically known for its expertise in hydrocarbon exploration, Squatex is now expanding its activities toward new energy sources such as natural (white) hydrogen, geothermal energy, geological storage, and helium. The company leverages its experience in geological modeling and exploration to contribute to the energy transition and the responsible management of resources.
For its part, CTI develops innovative eco-efficient drilling and intelligent mapping technologies within a carbon-neutral framework. These innovations aim to reduce the environmental impact of field operations while improving efficiency and precision.
A Cooperative and Humble Approach
This first participation at SIM allowed Squatex and CTI to adopt a spirit of mutual learning, based on adaptation and collaboration, ensuring that their technologies and expertise are tailored to the specific needs of the Senegalese context.
Both companies primarily aim to build local capacity by sharing their knowledge in exploration — including both their successes and lessons learned — to foster responsible and accelerated sectoral progress.
Their presence at SIM also enabled them to establish new contacts and gain a better understanding of the country’s realities and needs. As Mr. Séjourné emphasized, “Field vision is essential to grasp the local challenges and opportunities.”
The ultimate goal of the partnership with the SGNS is to help Senegal strengthen its scientific and technical autonomy, equipping it with the tools and skills necessary to develop its own discoveries. This commitment reflects a long-term vision : supporting the country’s geological and energy sovereignty through science-based, sustainable, and innovative practices.

Meeting with the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines
On the second day of the exhibition, Squatex and CTI had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Birame Souleye Diop, Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines of Senegal, to their booth. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the two companies’ sustainable exploration initiatives and eco-efficient technological solutions.
Discussions highlighted a shared vision: to strengthen Senegal’s geological and energy sovereignty through innovation, training, and scientific cooperation.
Acknowledgments
Squatex and CTI warmly thank everyone who visited their booth during the event, as well as their partners — the National Geological Survey of Senegal (SGNS) and LMP3 – Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) — for their valuable collaboration.
A special thanks also goes to the organizers of SIM Senegal 2025 for this memorable edition, marking an important milestone for both Quebec companies in their commitment to innovative, carbon-neutral exploration on the international stage.
Closing Remarks
To wrap up SIM 2025, our team prepared a short closing video recapping the key moments of the event and the discussions that shaped this first presence in Senegal.
